FC Barcelona are unstoppable: six wins from six matchdays, 28 goals scored and only six conceded, including a 7-2 demolition of Racing Santander on Wednesday, highlighted by a Raphinha hat-trick. Deployed as a false nine by Hansi Flick, the Brazilian, alongside Lamine Yamal, spearheads an attack averaging nearly five goals per game.

Meanwhile, Sevilla appear to have turned the page on a season that ended in 13th place, just one point above relegation. The Andalusians sit fourth with 13 points, thanks to narrow wins under Luis García Plaza, such as against Valencia and at Deportivo La Coruña (0-1). Their only defeat came at home to Atlético Madrid (1-3).

Sevilla: latest team news

Thirteenth last season and long threatened by relegation, Sevilla have undergone a transformation. Under Luis García Plaza, the Andalusians have already won four of six matches, often by the narrowest of margins, as in their last two games against Valencia and Deportivo La Coruña (1-0 each). The standout result so far is the 1-3 win at San Mamés against Athletic Bilbao, and only Atlético Madrid have left the Sánchez-Pizjuán with a victory (1-3). With 13 points, the club sits fourth and has scored in every match, driven by a collective effort where goals come from everywhere.

This revival is also down to a busy transfer window. Youssouf Fofana, formerly of Milan, brings experience to midfield, where Jon Guridi and Giorgi Kochorashvili have also arrived. At the back, Juan Iglesias quickly established himself on the right flank, even scoring the winner against Valencia. Up front, former Saint-Étienne player Lucas Stassin and Félix Correia, on loan from Lille, add pace and depth. However, the dressing room has lost several key figures: César Azpilicueta has retired, and goalkeeper Ørjan Nyland, Nemanja Gudelj, Juanlu and Akor Adams have departed, as well as Neal Maupay, who returned to Marseille. Rubén Vargas, injured, remains the only notable absentee for the visit of Barça.

Sevilla probable lineup

Odysseas Vlachodimos – Juan Iglesias, Andrés Castrín, Kike Salas, Gabriel Suazo – Miguel Sierra, Lucien Agoumé, Youssouf Fofana, Félix Correia – Lucas Stassin, Isaac Romero.

Coach: Luis García Plaza

Barcelona: latest team news

Nothing seems able to stop Barça. Double defending champions, the Catalan club have won their first six La Liga matches without ever looking troubled in the standings. The demolitions have come thick and fast, from Elche to Mestalla (0-5 each time), culminating in Wednesday’s thrashing of Racing Santander (7-2). The only minor blip was the 2-4 win at Levante, marred by two defensive errors in the closing minutes. With 28 goals scored, Hansi Flick boasts by far the best attack in Spain, without even fielding a true centre-forward. Positioned up front, Raphinha is the symbol: after his hat-trick against Racing, the captain has already found the net nine times and leads Lamine Yamal, who has seven goals, in the scoring charts.

Yet the summer was turbulent in Catalonia. Deprived of Robert Lewandowski, who left for MLS, Deco splashed out over 170 million euros. Anthony Gordon immediately made his mark on the left wing with four assists, while Karim Adeyemi and Gabriel Jesus broaden the attacking options. The arrival of Rodri, 2024 Ballon d’Or winner, adds another dimension to midfield, and João Cancelo, now signed permanently, also scored on Wednesday. The squad saw several familiar faces depart: Ferran Torres, Ronald Araújo, Marc-André ter Stegen, and Marcus Rashford, who returned to Manchester United after his loan. At the Sánchez-Pizjuán, Flick will again be without Frenkie de Jong and Roony Bardghji, both injured.

Barcelona probable lineup

Joan García – Eric García, Pau Cubarsí, Gerard Martín, Xavi Espart – Rodri, Pedri – Lamine Yamal, Fermín López, Anthony Gordon – Raphinha.

Coach: Hansi Flick

Head-to-head record between Sevilla and Barcelona

With 204 meetings, this fixture is one of the great classics of Spanish football, and Barça are the dominant force. The Catalans have won 119 of those duels, against 46 for Sevilla, with 39 draws. The gap is just as pronounced in goals, with 430 for the Blaugrana and 250 for the Andalusians.

Isaac Romero celebrates his goal during Sevilla's 4-1 win over Barcelona at the Ramón Sánchez-Pizjuán in October 2025.

Catalan dominance has only grown in recent years: in La Liga, Barça have won eight of their last ten matches against Sevilla. But one exception remains etched in memory. In October 2025, the Sánchez-Pizjuán witnessed its team sweep aside the Blaugrana (4-1), their first league win over them in a decade. Barça exacted revenge at the Camp Nou last March (5-2). Goals are never in short supply between these two: the last five La Liga meetings produced 26, with both sides scoring in each.
