Togo President Receives Chad Envoy, Pledges Strengthened Bilateral Ties

The President of the Council, Faure Essozimna Gnassingbé, received on Friday in Lomé a special envoy from Chad’s president, Mahamat Idriss Déby Itno. The meeting focused on strengthening bilateral cooperation, African integration, and the upcoming Forum on Water in Africa scheduled for N’Djamena.

During the visit, Faure Essozimna Gnassingbé received Fatime Aldjineh Garfa, a deputy minister of Chad’s Foreign Affairs Ministry, who brought a personal message from President Déby Itno. The envoy reiterated the two countries’ willingness to solidify their bilateral cooperation.

The meeting also discussed the challenges of African integration and the development of water-related cooperation.

‘We are carrying a personal message from the President of the Republic, Chief of State, Marshal Mahamat Idriss Déby Itno, to the President of the Council of the Republic of Togo, His Excellency Monsieur Faure Essozimna Gnassingbé. We have also transmitted an official invitation from the Chief of State of Chad to the Forum on Water in Africa, scheduled for July 15-16, 2026, in N’Djamena,’ said Mme Fatime Aldjineh Garfa.

The forum is part of the Agenda 2063 of the African Union and will bring together African leaders and technical partners to discuss investments in water infrastructure across the continent.

Through this visit, Lomé and N’Djamena reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening their political partnership and promoting joint initiatives for Africa’s development and integration.
