UNESCO Mali joins launch of Mali’s 32nd national reforestation campaign

On Saturday, July 26, 2026, a delegation from the UNESCO Mali office, led by its acting Head and Representative Mr. Ali-Mohamed Sinane, attended the official launch ceremony of the 32nd edition of Mali’s national reforestation campaign. Held at the Palais des Pionniers in Bamako, the event was presided over by General Abdoulaye Maïga, Prime Minister and Head of Government, representing the Transitional President of Mali.

The ceremony brought together government officials, national institution representatives, technical and financial partners, civil society organizations, private sector representatives, women’s associations, and youth groups. It also mobilized numerous actors committed to environmental protection, sustainable natural resource management, and combating the impacts of climate change.

Campaign theme and objectives

This year’s campaign, themed ‘Youth at the Heart of Environmental Citizenship for a Greener and More Resilient Mali,’ aligns with national efforts to restore ecosystems, combat desertification, and preserve natural resources. The initiative emphasizes citizen mobilization, particularly among young people, as key players in the ecological transition. Over the upcoming rainy season, the campaign aims to plant 21 million trees across Mali, contributing to the creation of a greener and more resilient nation.

By participating in this initiative, UNESCO reaffirms its commitment to supporting Mali in raising community awareness, strengthening local capacities, and promoting innovative solutions to enhance ecosystem resilience against environmental and climate challenges.
