In a press release issued on September 18, the NGO Open Doors called on Christians to pray for Oumar, a victim of Boko Haram persecution in the Far North of Cameroon.

Ranked 37th in Open Doors’ 2026 World Watch List of Christian persecution, Cameroon is increasingly plagued by violence, particularly in the Far North region. There, extremist groups such as Boko Haram and ISWAP pose a threat to Christians. These groups “threaten, abduct, and forcibly convert Christians to Islam,” the organization reports.

Oumar, whose story was shared by the NGO in an article published on September 18, was attacked by Boko Haram last January. Assailants stormed his village and killed more than twelve people, including his neighbor’s brother, a father of seven.

“After they took me out of town, I told them I would not go with them. I called for help, and that’s when they shot me,” testified the 20-year-old. Wounded in the leg, he was rushed to the hospital for surgery. However, the medical team was unable to remove the bullet, which continues to cause him pain today.

“I am waiting for God to help me in my suffering.”

Open Doors shared three prayer requests for Oumar with Christians worldwide: to thank God for protecting him from “this devastating attack,” to ask for his complete healing as he continues to receive medical care, and to pray for “peace and deliverance throughout the Far North region of Cameroon.”
