The Algerian women’s team delivered a historic performance this Saturday in the Women’s CAN quarterfinals against Ivory Coast. Trailing after Inès Konan opened the scoring (30th minute), the Green Eagles found themselves playing a man down when Ivory Coast’s rising star Safi N’Sira Ouedraogo was sent off for a kick to the face of Algerian goalkeeper Chloé N’Gazi (42nd minute).
Algeria equalized at halftime through Inès Khiri (58th minute), who had replaced Lina Boussaha just minutes earlier (46th minute). The Ivory Coast’s Elephants had a chance to regain the lead from the penalty spot, but Rebecca Elloh’s shot was denied by the post (62nd minute). The Green Eagles sealed their victory with a second goal by Amira Ould Braham, capitalizing on a mistake by goalkeeper Aramatou Diakité (64th minute).
This quarterfinal appearance marks Algeria’s first-ever semifinal run in the Women’s CAN. Under the guidance of coach Farid Benstiti, the team also clinched their spot in the 2027 World Cup in Brazil. They will face the winner of the quarterfinal clash between Malawi and Ghana in the semifinals.
