Burkina Faso’s e-ticketing system shows promising initial results

Mahamadou Sana, the Minister of Security for Burkina Faso, recently observed the remarkable efficiency of the newly implemented e-verbalization system for traffic infractions. This digital enforcement mechanism went live on August 1, 2026, precisely at midnight, beginning its automatic detection of violations against the Road Code. Just twelve hours later, at noon, the Minister personally visited the video protection supervision center to monitor the real-time operation of the system. He was accompanied by Zakaria Hebie, the Director General of Transmissions and Information Technology.

Initial impact of digital road enforcement in Burkina Faso

During his visit, the Minister extended his commendations to the technical teams for their exceptional professionalism and pivotal role in deploying this innovative solution. The immediate impact was significant: within the initial twelve-hour period, a staggering 1,099 infractions were recorded. These included common violations such as failing to wear a seatbelt, disregarding traffic lights, exceeding the posted speed limit, and using a mobile phone while driving. Notably, five offenders had already processed their fines through the FASO ARZEKA platform, demonstrating the system’s end-to-end functionality.

Mahamadou Sana underscored that these early results unequivocally confirm the operational readiness of the e-verbalization system. He emphasized that this initiative reflects the Burkinabe government’s steadfast commitment to leveraging digital technologies to enhance road safety across the nation. The Ministry also issued a timely reminder to all citizens: adhering to the Road Code remains the most effective way to prevent contraventions and ensure safer roads for everyone in this Sahelian nation.
