After an intense 10-day journey covering nearly 3,000 kilometers across five West African nations, members of the Motards du Faso returned to Ouagadougou on August 11, 2026. The ambitious regional tour, which began on August 2, took the group through Burkina Faso, Ghana, Togo, Benin, and Nigeria.

The expedition wasn’t merely a test of endurance or a tourism adventure—it served as a vital road safety campaign. The motards made it their mission to promote helmet-wearing among motorcyclists and drivers across the countries they traversed. Their efforts included distributing educational materials and engaging with local communities to emphasize the importance of protective gear.

Upon their triumphant return to the Burkina Faso capital, the team was greeted by a festive crowd. The highlight of the trip for many participants was the grueling first leg of the journey. Departing Ouagadougou at 4:30 AM, the group arrived in Accra, Ghana, approximately 23 hours later, accounting for necessary rest stops.

Abel Aziz Konaté, president of Motards du Faso, reflected on the significance of the tour. « This regional initiative, which we’ve named the Grand Tour Régional 2026, builds upon our long-standing tradition of fostering connections with fellow motorcyclists across West Africa. In September 2025, we organized the 72 Heures des Motards du Burkina, and this tour allowed us to extend our gratitude to our peers who joined us for that event », he explained.

The motards, adorned in protective helmets and jackets, rode sleek motorcycles through diverse landscapes. Their journey wasn’t just about covering distance—it was about creating bonds with local riders and showcasing Burkina Faso’s resilience. « Our goal was crystal clear: to demonstrate the unyielding spirit of Burkina Faso. This was our duty, and we embraced it wholeheartedly. We left Ouagadougou on August 2, passing through Paga before reaching Accra. From there, we crossed into Togo and onward to Benin », Konaté added.

The tour also provided opportunities to celebrate local hospitality and immerse in cultural exchanges. Along the way, the motards encountered heartwarming stories and memorable moments that highlighted the shared passion for motorcycling across borders. Konaté emphasized the critical role of helmet use in preventing road accidents. « We fully support the Ministry of Security’s efforts to promote helmet-wearing. I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again: the objective is simple—every road user must wear a helmet. Compliance shouldn’t require enforcement; it should be a natural, instinctive choice for safety », he asserted.

As the roar of engines fades in Ouagadougou, the Motards du Faso are already looking ahead to their next initiatives. For them, the adventure continues with a renewed focus on road safety advocacy and community engagement.
