Côte d’Ivoire: new leadership appointments within the PPA-CI party

Laurent Gbagbo has reshuffled the leadership of the Ivorian Popular Front (PPA-CI), opting for a collaborative approach rather than concentrating power in a single individual.

Five key figures within the party have been assigned new roles, each overseeing critical functions to strengthen the PPA-CI’s operational capacity.

Assoa Adou steps into the role of First Vice-President, tasked with upholding the party’s ideological consistency and ensuring adherence to its founding principles.

Hubert Oulaye takes on the position of Second Vice-President, responsible for party operations and presiding over central committee meetings.

Emmanuel Ackah, former ambassador, has been named Third Vice-President with a focus on animating and energizing the PPA-CI’s grassroots activities.

Justin Katinan Koné retains his role in managing the party’s overall political strategy, while Sébastien Dano Djédjé heads the newly established Strategic and Political Council, overseeing its implementation.

Gbagbo framed these appointments as a shift toward a “more collegial leadership”, emphasizing “complementary responsibilities and unified action” as the guiding principles of the PPA-CI’s new direction.

Political analyst Abdourahmane Barry noted that while the changes signal a decentralization of daily operations, the core leadership remains firmly under Gbagbo’s control. Barry highlighted that the new appointees are primarily tasked with day-to-day governance, while strategic decision-making continues to reside with Gbagbo himself.
