deadly assaults claim at least 22 lives in northern Burkina Faso
Northern Burkina Faso endured a weekend of intense violence, as suspected jihadist attacks on Saturday and Sunday resulted in the deaths of at least 22 military personnel and civilian auxiliaries.
A base belonging to the Rapid Intervention Battalion (BIR) in Di, situated near Dédougou, came under a targeted assault by suspected jihadists on Saturday morning. This brutal attack tragically claimed the lives of at least fourteen soldiers and seven Volunteers for the Defense of the Homeland (VDP), who operate as crucial civilian auxiliaries to the armed forces.
Additionally, the town of Solhan was struck by a separate attack, which also resulted in multiple fatalities, including a military officer. Security sources have independently verified both of these devastating incidents.
