Gabon: understanding China’s development through the communist party’s history and its impact on bilateral ties
To mark the 105th anniversary of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP), the Chinese Embassy in Gabon hosted a significant press conference, offering insights into the trajectory of this organization that has become a pivotal global player. Addressing journalists and invited guests, Chinese diplomats illuminated the historical path of a party that has profoundly reshaped the destiny of its nation. In just a few decades, China has achieved remarkable industrialization, realizing a dual triumph of rapid economic growth and enduring social stability.
Grasping contemporary China necessitates an understanding of the CCP’s operational framework. This point was strongly reiterated by Xiaole Zhu, the Minister-Counselor at the Embassy. “Over 105 years, the Chinese Communist Party, which began with only around fifty members, has grown into the world’s leading ruling party, now boasting over 100 million members,” he stated during his presentation.
This impressive ascent stems from a unique connection with the populace. The CCP draws its strength from deep popular roots and a constantly evolving theoretical system, which adeptly adapts Marxism to the country’s specific and changing realities. Furthermore, absolute internal rigor is maintained to safeguard the Party’s vitality. An unprecedented campaign against corruption and a reinforced disciplinary framework have successfully mitigated latent risks. As Ambassador Zhou Ping succinctly put it: “To forge quality steel, the tools themselves must be robust.”
A shared vision for the future with Gabon
On the international stage, China continues to affirm its role as a global peacebuilder and a significant contributor to worldwide development. Through the implementation of its five-year plans, the nation sustains approximately a 30% contribution to global economic growth. Concurrently, major initiatives, such as “The Belt and Road,” promote extensive international cooperation and generate hundreds of thousands of employment opportunities.
This commemorative event also served to reinforce bilateral ties with Libreville. The Ambassador warmly concluded the gathering by emphasizing that “China and Gabon are excellent partners, bound by traditional trust.” As a new era of cooperation dawns, Beijing expresses its full readiness to deepen exchanges in governance, aiming to jointly build a community with a shared future.
