Kinshasa is set to gain a major infrastructure boost with the launch of a new eight-lane boulevard named after Étienne Tshisekedi. The project, spanning 2.02 kilometers, aims to enhance traffic flow in a key area of the capital. The contract for this ambitious undertaking has been awarded to China Railway 20th Bureau Group, a leading Chinese construction firm. The 12-month project includes not only the main roadway but also a 750-meter ramp, drainage systems, bridges, culverts, and street lighting.

The project represents China Railway 20th Bureau Group’s (CR20) maiden public infrastructure venture in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Zhang Guoxu, CEO of CR20’s Angola International Company, emphasized the company’s commitment to meeting technical standards and deadlines while ensuring environmental compliance. Governor Daniel Bumba underscored the importance of strict adherence to contractual obligations to expedite the project’s benefits for local traffic management.

President Félix Tshisekedi personally oversaw the groundbreaking ceremony, reviewing detailed plans and 3D renderings of the proposed boulevard. The initiative targets chronic congestion hotspots in Kinshasa by delivering a wider, better-equipped roadway. Its success hinges on precise execution, timeline compliance, and seamless integration with existing transit networks. Upon completion, the new thoroughfare should alleviate pressure on currently overburdened routes, marking a significant step in the capital’s urban development.
