La Libye Announce Large Scale Border Patrol Operation

The Libyan government has announced a large-scale border patrol operation to strengthen security and combat irregular immigration.

Colonel Ahmed Abu Qila, commander of desert patrols in the southern region, announced that vast areas would be patrolled from Sebha and Umm al-Aranib, passing through Qatrun, Dahaan Murzuq, and Tajarhi, up to the border with Chad.

In a televised statement, Abu Qila explained that work is underway to determine routes and establish a future strategy, as well as create a security post in the ‘Zone Frontalière 17’.

He stressed that the General Command is supporting the Agency for Counter-Immigration, aware of the gravity of the irregular immigration crisis as a national security issue.

Abu Qila also mentioned that the support and equipment provided by the Vice-Commander General of the agency constituted the starting point for improving work and increasing efficiency on the ground.

He also noted that signing agreements with friendly countries and importing advanced equipment will reinforce efforts to combat traffickers and transfrontier gangs.
