Renowned Moroccan-American scholar Mohamed Daadaoui has hailed the Kingdom’s pivotal role in shaping a proactive and preventive approach to migration flows. In a candid assessment from Washington, he emphasized Morocco’s emergence as a regional leader and a trusted international partner, driven by a well-regarded doctrine of engagement adopted by global stakeholders.

Regional leadership and international credibility

The academic highlighted Morocco’s success in fostering smooth bilateral cooperation with Spain, particularly in dismantling human trafficking networks and executing complex rescue and assistance operations at sea. Yet, he cautioned against overburdening the Kingdom with sole responsibility for a transnational challenge. « Morocco can secure its borders, but it cannot single-handedly resolve the deep-rooted issues of irregular migration », he noted, stressing that cross-continental migration demands a collective response rather than a unilateral burden.

A call for strategic European collaboration

Mr. Daadaoui concluded his remarks by urging European policymakers to reframe their migration strategies, prioritizing the tackling of socio-economic drivers behind departures. He underscored that sustainable migration governance in the Mediterranean hinges on stronger collaboration with Morocco. « Effective migration management is intrinsically tied to close, reliable partnerships with Morocco », he asserted, advocating for a shared approach to a shared challenge.
