Morocco Mauritania defense cooperation strengthened during high-level military visit
During this official visit, General Mohammed Berrid, Inspector General of the Royal Armed Forces (FAR) and Commander of the Southern Zone, was received by President Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghezouani in Nouakchott. The meeting took place in the presence of Hamid Chabar, Morocco’s Ambassador to Mauritania, as confirmed by a statement from the Royal Armed Forces’ General Staff.
The same day, the Moroccan military delegation visited the Ministry of Defense headquarters, where General Berrid engaged in discussions with Minister Hanana Ould Sidi. In a symbolic gesture, the Mauritanian Defense Minister presented the Moroccan general with the National Order of Merit in the rank of Commander, awarded on behalf of the Mauritanian Head of State.
Later, General Berrid and Mauritania’s Chief of Staff jointly presided over the sixth session of the Mixed Military Commission. Both sides highlighted the strong progress in military cooperation between Morocco and Mauritania, describing it as a model of strategic partnership that delivers tangible results for both nations.
