A high-ranking military delegation from Morocco, led by General Mohammed Berrid, Inspector General of the Royal Armed Forces (FAR) and Commander of the Southern Zone, concluded a productive working visit to Mauritania this week.

General Berrid was received at the Presidential Palace in Nouakchott by President Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghezouani, with Morocco’s Ambassador to Mauritania, Hamid Chabar, present during the meeting.

During the same day, the Moroccan general visited the Ministry of Defense headquarters, where Mauritania’s Defense Minister, Hanana Ould Sidi, bestowed upon him the National Order of Merit in the rank of Commander. The award was presented on behalf of the Mauritanian Head of State.

Following this, General Berrid and Mauritania’s Chief of Staff co-chaired the sixth session of the Joint Military Commission. Senior military officials from both nations reviewed the strong results of their defense cooperation, acknowledging the tangible outcomes of this long-standing strategic partnership.

The discussions underscored the depth and effectiveness of Morocco-Mauritania military relations, with both sides reaffirming their commitment to deepen collaboration in regional security and defense initiatives.
