The Inspector General of Morocco’s Royal Armed Forces, Lieutenant General Mohammed Berrid, concluded a significant working visit to Mauritania this week, where he engaged with top Mauritanian officials to reinforce bilateral military ties.

On Tuesday in Nouakchott, Lieutenant General Berrid was received by Mauritanian President Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghezouani. The meeting took place in the presence of Morocco’s Ambassador to Mauritania, Hamid Chabar, as confirmed by an official statement from the General Staff of Morocco’s Royal Armed Forces (FAR).

Honors and strategic discussions

Following the presidential audience, the Moroccan delegation visited the Mauritanian Ministry of Defense, where Defense Minister Hanana Ould Sidi presented Lieutenant General Berrid with the National Order of Merit at the Commander grade, awarded on behalf of Mauritania’s President.

In a further display of cooperation, the Moroccan Inspector General and Mauritania’s Chief of Staff co-chaired the sixth session of the Joint Military Commission. Military leaders from both nations reviewed progress in their defense partnership, highlighting the tangible achievements and shared commitment to regional security.

Both sides expressed strong satisfaction with the outcomes, emphasizing that the Morocco-Mauritania military relationship serves as a benchmark for strategic collaboration in the region.
