The leader of Pastef, Ousmane Sonko, publicly admonished former minister Maimouna Dièye following remarks she made during the launch ceremony for the party’s membership card sales, held this Saturday in Khombole.

Addressing militants, Maimouna Dièye had stated, “I am delighted to be here today, but more importantly, to speak in the presence of Seydina Ousmane Sonko, Salalahou Aleyhi Wa Salam.” This specific religious invocation immediately prompted a response from the Pastef leader.

Taking his turn to speak, Ousmane Sonko felt compelled to disapprove of this religious reference, emphasizing that it should under no circumstances be associated with him.

“The profound affection the populace shows me can, at times, lead some individuals to go too far. My sister Maimouna Dièye, in her address just now, uttered my name and then appended ‘Salalahou Aleyhi Wa Salam.’ I waited patiently to speak,” he declared to the assembled audience.

The Pastef chief subsequently reiterated that this particular formula is exclusively reserved for Prophet Mohammed.

“Let us reserve this invocation for Prophet Mohammed. For I have never attained that spiritual level, and I never will,” Ousmane Sonko firmly stated, drawing applause from numerous militants.

This clarification comes as the Pastef leader continues his national tour dedicated to the party’s membership card sales campaign. Following his visit to Khombole, he is expected in Bargny, Bambey, and Sébikhotane as part of this political mobilization effort.
