Allegations of mismanaged funds for casamance peace
The Parti Kiiraay Les Patriotes Républicains, a political formation aligned with President Diomaye Faye, has brought forth accusations against Ousmane Sonko regarding the handling of 3.7 billion FCFA. These funds, reportedly drawn from the “Jamm pour la Paix en Casamance” account between 2025 and 2026, are alleged to have been spent without sufficient justification, raising concerns about their true purpose.
In a public statement issued on August 25, 2026, the party sharply criticized the management of these special funds, which were earmarked for peace initiatives in the Casamance region. They assert that Sonko’s reported explanations for some expenditures, such as the acquisition of vehicles and the refurbishment of the administrative building, bear no relation to the fund’s designated objective of fostering peace in Casamance.
The political group argues that this situation casts doubt on the integrity of public financial management and the commitment to transparency. They emphasize that accountability standards should be applied consistently to all public funds, regardless of the individual in charge, stating that “transparency cannot be applied selectively.”
These latest claims from the Parti Kiiraay Les Patriotes Républicains emerge in the wake of a Constitutional Council ruling. The Council recently invalidated a law passed by the PASTEF-dominated National Assembly, which aimed to establish control over special funds. As of now, former Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko has not yet publicly addressed the accusations made by the ruling party.
