Tchad’s renewable energy future brightens with Adré solar plant inauguration

The Tchad government has officially launched a cutting-edge solar power plant in Adré, marking a transformative leap in the nation’s energy landscape. This landmark project, situated in the Ouaddaï province, signals a bold commitment to sustainable energy solutions and decentralized power generation.

Ceremony gathers key stakeholders

The inauguration event brought together high-ranking officials, local leaders, and energy sector representatives. The ceremony was led by the Assoungha department prefect, joined by the Rural Electrification Development Agency (ADERM) leadership, technical partners, and community members from Adré and surrounding areas.

The solar facility, constructed under the national electrification policy, aims to bolster electricity access, enhance living standards, and stimulate economic growth in the Ouaddaï region. Speaking at the event, Ahmat Abderrahim, Mayor of Adré, emphasized the project’s strategic importance in strengthening the city’s energy infrastructure.

Vision becomes reality: solar hybrid plant details revealed

During the inauguration, Younous Daoussa Mahamat, Director-General of ADERM, shared groundbreaking insights about the project. He described the moment not just as a ceremonial milestone but as the fulfillment of a national commitment to universal energy access, championed by President Mahamat Idriss Déby Itno.

“This facility represents more than infrastructure — it embodies our nation’s resolve to leave no community in darkness,” Mahamat stated. The solar hybrid plant in Adré features:

• 4,800 photovoltaic modules, each delivering 585 watts, totaling 2.808 megawatts-peak
• A 7.52 megawatt-hour battery storage system for reliable power supply
• Two 500 KVA diesel generators as backup power sources
• Extended 5 km medium-voltage and 10 km low-voltage distribution networks

The project was executed under direct presidential instruction, demonstrating the government’s dedication to balanced territorial development and inclusive progress.

Local leaders praise national initiative

Dillo Bergou, Prefect of Assoungha, conveyed deep gratitude from the Adré community to the Head of State. “The people of Adré owe this transformative development to President Déby’s unwavering vision,” he remarked. He also commended all stakeholders involved in bringing the project to fruition.

The celebration concluded with a symbolic ribbon-cutting ceremony, followed by guided tours of the facility. This inauguration underscores Tchad‘s strategic pivot toward renewable energy and sets a powerful precedent for future sustainable infrastructure projects across the country.
