Civilian casualties in Mopti’s Kyrnia village
According to a report released by Human Rights Watch, a Sukhoi Su-24 aircraft deployed at least two munitions over Kyrnia village in the Mopti region. The first strike reportedly hit the residence of the village leader, killing his wife and three children. The second targeted a nearby livestock market, claiming four additional lives and leaving several others injured. The watchdog emphasized that none of the victims had any connection to armed groups.
Africa Corps claims jihadist target amid civilian deaths
The Africa Corps, which operates alongside Malian forces in combating jihadist factions, asserted on social media that the operation struck a « terrorist gathering point. » Human Rights Watch countered that while witnesses confirmed the presence of fighters from the Group for the Support of Islam and Muslims (JNIM) in the village at the time of the strikes, there was no evidence to suggest the civilian victims were involved in hostilities.
