The escalating security crisis in the Sahel has pushed Chad and Burkina Faso to reinforce their defense collaboration, culminating in high-level talks this week. Officials from both nations convened in Ouagadougou to chart a unified strategy against terrorism, a growing menace threatening regional stability.

A high-powered delegation from Chad’s Ministry of Public Security and Immigration, led by Police Commissioner Mahamat Ibrahim Man Man, engaged in strategic discussions with Burkina Faso’s Minister of Security, Mahamadou Sana. The focus centered on enhancing cross-border security cooperation, particularly in counter-terrorism efforts, as outlined in a joint statement from N’Djamena.

Mbaï-Naïssem Isaac Chamir, Legal Advisor to Chad’s Security Minister and part of the visiting delegation, described the meeting as a precursor to a broader Joint Cooperation Commission between the two countries. “This gathering lays the groundwork for a robust framework to tackle our shared security challenges,” he explained. “Our shared history and operational experiences will guide us in crafting a defense partnership tailored to the realities on the ground.”

Expressing gratitude for the warm reception, Chamir emphasized the importance of building a resilient, long-term security alliance that respects each nation’s sovereignty. The communiqué highlights that this budding partnership will evolve through upcoming bilateral cooperation stages, with the Joint Commission playing a pivotal role in deepening collaboration between Chad and Burkina Faso.
