Eight fatalities and one injury reported after Boko Haram militants raid village in Cameroon’s Far North

An overnight assault by suspected Boko Haram fighters in the village of Kangaleri, Mayo-Sava department, left eight people dead and one injured, local sources confirmed Saturday.

The attack unfolded around 11:00 PM, plunging the community into chaos. Six victims were killed instantly, while three others sustained severe injuries and were rushed to medical facilities. Tragically, two of the wounded later succumbed to their injuries, bringing the provisional death toll to eight. One survivor remained in critical condition as of Saturday, according to local reports.

As is characteristic of these insurgents, the assailants struck under the cover of darkness before swiftly retreating. Investigators are still piecing together the attack’s exact sequence and identifying all casualties.

In a separate incident later that night, another Boko Haram-linked raid was reported in Tourou, a settlement within Mokolo district near the Nigeria border. Attackers looted livestock and goods before vandalizing a local market close to the town center. No casualties have been reported in this second attack so far.

The Far North region of Cameroon continues to face persistent threats from Boko Haram insurgents and splinter factions, despite ongoing military operations by Cameroonian armed forces and partners in the Multinational Joint Task Force operating in the Lake Chad basin.
