Ewen Jaouen completes move to Newcastle United from Stade de Reims
Three years after joining Stade de Reims, goalkeeper Ewen Jaouen is heading to England. The Reims club officially confirmed his transfer to Newcastle United in the Premier League on Wednesday, June 10.
It is official: Ewen Jaouen is leaving Stade de Reims! The Reims club confirmed his transfer to Newcastle United, in the English top flight, on Wednesday, June 10. The 20-year-old goalkeeper had joined the Rouge et Blanc three years ago. With this transfer, he enters the top 15 most valued goalkeepers in football history.
After several loan spells, the footballer delivered an excellent first season with Stade de Reims this year. With 15 clean sheets, the goalkeeper achieved the best performance across Ligue 1 and Ligue 2 combined this season. In its statement, the Champagne club hailed ‘one of the most promising last lines of French football’. Having been called up for the first time this year with the France U21 team, the young Breton ‘impresses with his reflex saves, his composure on the ball, and his great maturity’.
A commitment to young footballers in the Marne
Stade de Reims had bet on him since 2023. After a first half of the season with the Pro 2 group, the goalkeeper went on several loans, notably with Rodez. At the Aveyron club, at 18 years old he became the youngest starting goalkeeper in the five major European leagues and their second divisions. The following season, he joined Dunkerque’s squad where his team reached the Coupe de France semi-finals.
Beyond his role on the pitch, Ewen Jaouen was involved with young players from AS Gueux, whom he coached several times a week. When his schedule allowed, the young man also accompanied them to matches on weekends across the department. Just before his departure, the children came to spend a final moment with him at the Raymond Kopa training center.
