Gabon: UN injects 10.5 billion CFA francs in 2025 — a turning point for sustainable development

A decisive shift in UN-Gabon partnership
At the United Nations common house in Libreville, a historic moment unfolded as Fatou Aminata Lo, the resident coordinator of the UN System in Gabon, met with journalists for the first time since taking office in January. The gathering went beyond a routine presentation of the 2025 activity report; it signaled a decisive shift toward deeper collaboration and a renewed push for the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the upcoming 2028-2032 framework.
Flanked by agency heads, Lo underscored the transformative intent: “Our contribution is not measured solely by the number of projects delivered, but also by our ability to bring actors together and turn public policy changes into tangible results for the people.”
Record funding to accelerate progress
In 2025, a total envelope of 10.5 billion CFA francs (18.5 million dollars) was mobilized through 21 entities and nearly 300 staff members, 70% of whom are nationals. This funding is channeled into three priority areas: promoting good governance and human rights, advancing a green and blue economy, and ensuring equal opportunities and social inclusion.
Journalists press for concrete answers
During the exchange, reporters raised pointed concerns about the UN System’s actual role and the direct impact of its programs amid pressing socio-economic challenges. The candid dialogue laid the groundwork for a more transparent and closely coordinated partnership.
