Judicial summons for Assalé Tiémoko Antoine intensifies political spotlight

Assalé Tiémoko Antoine, who leads the political movement Aujourd’hui et Demain, la Côte d’Ivoire (Adci), has been formally summoned to appear before the doyenne des juges d’instruction at the Tribunal de première instance d’Abidjan. This marks a new development in a legal matter involving the prominent figure.

The Adci’s National Executive Bureau, through a communiqué signed by its executive secretary Roger Youan, made this information public. Lawyers representing Assalé Tiémoko Antoine were notified by the Préfecture de police d’Abidjan on Tuesday, May 12, 2026, regarding the arrival of the summons. Upon learning of the situation, the deputy-mayor personally proceeded to the Police Prefecture to officially receive the document, signing a reception report.

The summons directs the Adci president to present himself on Friday, May 15, 2026, at 8 AM, before the doyenne des juges d’instruction overseeing the 8th investigative chamber of the Tribunal de première instance d’Abidjan.

The Adci communiqué highlights that this judicial action follows an incident on the evening of May 11, 2026. On that occasion, its president was prevented from boarding a flight bound for Canada, an obstruction that occurred, according to the political movement, “without the presentation of any official document.”

In response to these events, the Adci has urged its members and supporters to maintain “calm, serenity, and mobilization.” The party also encouraged them to continue their efforts in establishing the movement’s presence across the entire national territory and internationally.

Furthermore, the party revealed that even before receiving this recent summons, Assalé Tiémoko Antoine had dispatched a letter to the public prosecutor, seeking “clarifications regarding his legal standing.”

This latest legal proceeding unfolds amidst a vibrant political landscape, particularly as the Adci president has garnered significant media attention, having recently declared his candidacy for the 2028 municipal elections in the commune of Cocody.
