The Spanish football league has officially announced the postponement of the Celta Vigo versus Osasuna fixture, originally scheduled for Sunday at 21:30 CET during the opening weekend of LaLiga.
Inspections carried out on Wednesday revealed a severe fungal infestation on the pitch at Balaídos Stadium, prompting immediate action from league officials. The match has now been rescheduled to Thursday, 27 August, at 20:30 CET.
Spanish football authorities confirmed the decision in coordination with both clubs and the Spanish Football Federation. Since midway through last season, LaLiga has held full autonomy over fixture scheduling, eliminating the need for further approvals.
The league’s statement emphasized the health of the pitch as the sole determining factor, with no alternative venues under consideration. This marks the fourth postponement in the opening matchday, following earlier delays to fixtures involving Valencia vs Real Betis, Real Madrid vs Real Sociedad, and Barcelona vs Athletic Bilbao.
