The soldier, stationed in a high-risk zone due to security operations, had left his wife and three children in their shared home while he carried out his duties. Upon returning, he found the house deserted. Tracking her phone led him to N’Djamena’s Bakara district, where she had relocated with a civilian companion.

Determined to confront the situation, the military man traveled from the Lake Chad area to the capital. Locating the couple, he immediately contacted authorities, resulting in their arrest. Both individuals were detained at the Klessoum prison facility pending trial.

Legal standoff: prosecution demands justice, defense cites marital neglect

During questioning, the wife remained steadfast in her refusal to reunite with her husband, citing a stronger emotional bond with her new partner. The prosecutor, emphasizing the seriousness of the charges, sought strict legal consequences for the accused pair, including a 100,000 CFA franc fine each. Additionally, the soldier requested the return of his dowry, valued at two million francs.

The defense team, however, argued that the wife had endured prolonged emotional neglect during her husband’s extended absences, framing her actions as a response to marital injustice. After intense deliberations, the court adjourned the case, with a ruling expected in the coming days.
