Ousmane Sonko mourns spiritual mentor Serigne Cheikh Saliou Mbacké

In a deeply personal tribute that resonated with grief and gratitude, Ousmane Sonko, leader of the Pastef movement, paid heartfelt homage to Serigne Cheikh Saliou Mbacké, a revered spiritual figure whose passing left an indelible mark on Senegal’s political and religious landscape.

Sonko, visibly moved by the loss, described the late marabout as more than a spiritual guide—he was a father figure, a trusted confidant, and a pillar of wisdom during life’s most challenging moments. The politician’s emotional remarks underscored the profound impact Serigne Cheikh Saliou had on his journey, both personally and professionally.

« To Allah we belong, and to Him we shall return, » Sonko reflected, his voice heavy with sorrow. « A father, a friend, a confidant, and a guiding light has departed from us. »

He recounted how Serigne Cheikh Saliou’s unwavering support manifested through heartfelt advice, fervent prayers, and the collective blessings of his disciples across multiple Daara (Quranic schools). « In my darkest hours, he stood by me—his compassion, his guidance, and the prayers of his followers were my constant solace, » Sonko shared.

The political figure also celebrated the spiritual and moral legacy of the deceased, hailing him as a « champion of work and spirituality » and the revered Maître de Khelcom. Concluding his tribute, Sonko offered a solemn prayer for the departed soul’s eternal peace.

« O Allah, shroud him in Your boundless mercy and grant him entry into Your eternal paradise, » he implored.
