The President’s recent address, delivered during the official launch of his new political party, KIIRAAY – Les Patriotes Républicains, carried a strong message widely interpreted as a direct caution to his former Prime Minister, Ousmane Sonko. President Bassirou Diomaye Faye issued a clear warning, stating in Wolof: « Fii, saa fitnë dootufi nanee ñeex », which translates to: ‘here, from now on, what was previously tolerated will no longer be permissible.’
 
Within his remarks, the founder of KIIRAAY – Les Patriotes Républicains underscored Senegal’s enduring commitment to stability and lasting peace. This declaration unfolds against a backdrop of escalating political tension between the two prominent figures of the executive branch, fueled by the restructuring of the presidential majority and the emergence of President Faye’s new political entity.
 
The pronouncement follows months of public disagreements between the Head of State and his former government chief, characterized by divergent tones in their respective national addresses and the definitive split between the presidential coalition and the Pastef party.
 
Notably, Ousmane Sonko, the president of Pastef, has concurrently embarked on a membership card drive with his party colleagues in recent days.
