The president of the Borkou Provincial Council, Ahmat Bedei Toullomi, was taken into custody late Thursday afternoon in N’Djamena and transferred to the General Coordination of the Judicial Police, according to security sources.

His arrest occurred inside La Résidence Hotel, just before 5:00 PM, following a legal complaint filed for defamation and public insults.

The complaint was lodged by Goudje Gueillet Hemchi and Kodou Omari, who allege that Ahmat Bedei Toullomi made multiple accusations on social media. These claims included implicating the complainants in a cocaine trafficking ring operating in Chad.

The plaintiffs strongly deny these allegations, calling them “completely false, baseless, and defamatory,” and argue that the accusations have severely damaged their honor and reputation.

Legal proceedings and prior summons

An arrest warrant for Ahmat Bedei Toullomi was issued on August 4, 2026, by the public prosecutor’s office at the Tribunal de grande instance in N’Djamena. The warrant required him to appear and respond to the charges against him.

Investigations indicate that the provincial president had been summoned multiple times previously but failed to respond to any of the notices. After more than ten days of non-compliance, law enforcement proceeded with his arrest to ensure he faced questioning by the competent authorities.

Social media reaction

Within minutes of his arrest, a message was posted at 5:10 PM on his Facebook page: “Either the Marshal stands with us all, or traffickers are stronger than the law. I’ve been abducted.”

At this stage, the arrest remains a procedural measure within the framework of an ongoing judicial investigation.
