Us visa policy change affects Gabon travelers from 2026

Starting June 2026, the United States will halt visa issuance from Libreville under a new policy implemented by the Trump administration.

This decision reduces the number of African countries authorized to process U.S. visas from roughly fifty to just a handful. Gabon is among those losing this privilege, forcing its residents to travel to neighboring countries for their applications.

The policy targets reducing undocumented immigration, but it also imposes significant logistical and financial burdens on travelers. Applicants from Gabon must now journey to Cameroon (Yaoundé), the Democratic Republic of the Congo (Kinshasa), or Togo (Lomé) to submit their visa requests.

The added travel costs, including flights and accommodation, will substantially increase the overall expense of obtaining a U.S. visa for Gabonese citizens and residents.
