Willy Mengue, a leading voice in the opposition against Maurice Kamto’s return to the Mouvement pour la renaissance du Cameroun (MRC) presidency, is calling on Equinoxe TV to rebalance its information coverage.
This rebalancing of political information is deemed crucial, especially following the appearance of Vice-President Mamadou Mota on the program “La vérité en face” on Sunday evening.
Mengue asserts that this action is vital for “equity in information processing,” “the pursuit of journalistic truth,” and “the right to information.”
In an open letter addressed to the CEO of Equinoxe TV, Willy Mengue stated, “It is urgent to organize, if not a direct debate between the two factions, then a substantial right of reply to the program ‘La vérité en face’ dedicated to the contested return of Professor Maurice Kamto at the helm of the MRC. You graciously extended the microphone to our political friend Mamadou Mota on this pertinent issue; the quest for truth demands that you offer the same service to the challengers, of whom I am the representative.”
On Sunday night, Mamadou Mota publicly defended Kamto’s return to the MRC presidency. However, Willy Mengue vehemently disputes this, characterizing it as a “fraudulent return.”
“Equinoxe TV is renowned as ‘the people’s channel that reports beyond the image.’ Your reporting on the manipulation of the MRC’s fundamental texts to facilitate the fraudulent return of a resigned member to the party’s leadership will be just and equitable if this rightfully claimed right of reply is granted. The Cameroonian people are observing you on this matter,” Mengue concluded.
