Bénin: election officials train in India on AI for voting systems

A delegation from Benin’s autonomous national electoral commission (CENA) is in New Delhi this week for an intensive program on artificial intelligence applications in elections. The five-day session, running from July 6 to 10, 2026, brings together electoral experts to explore how AI can enhance transparency and security in voting processes.

Organized by the India International Institute of Democracy and Election Management (IIIDEM) under the Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation (ITEC) program, the training focuses on practical AI tools for electoral administration. Participants examine how artificial intelligence can streamline voter registration, detect irregularities, and strengthen cybersecurity during elections.

The curriculum covers key areas such as digital governance, ethical considerations, human rights protection, legal frameworks for AI use, and risk management strategies. Through lectures, case studies, hands-on demonstrations, and peer exchanges with election officials from multiple countries, the CENA team gains actionable insights into modernizing electoral processes.

For the CENA, this initiative represents a strategic step toward embracing digital transformation in elections.
