The Malian Armed Forces (FAMa) have declared a strategic shift in the conflict landscape, asserting full operational control over areas previously targeted by militant factions. This includes zones under pressure from the Front de libération de l’Azawad in the northern regions and the Group for the Support of Islam and Muslims (JNIM), an Al-Qaeda affiliate, across central and southern Mali.

Military operations intensify in critical zones

In a statement released to the public, the FAMa detailed ongoing clashes in Anifif, northeast Mali, situated roughly 110 kilometers south of Kidal. The engagement followed the arrival of additional fighters and resources for the Front de libération de l’Azawad.

The army’s communiqué emphasized the resilience of its troops, stating: « In response to these coordinated assaults, Malian defense units maintained relentless combat operations throughout the day, demonstrating unwavering courage and operational discipline. »

Confidence in national defense capabilities

The FAMa reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding Mali’s territorial integrity and protecting civilians. The statement underscored « absolute confidence in the operational capacity of the Malian Armed Forces to neutralize enemy threats and restore peace across the nation. »

JNIM-linked faction denies leadership losses

A spokesperson for the Front de libération de l’Azawad, Mohamed Mouloud Ramadan, previously asserted control over Anifif following renewed hostilities. Addressing concerns over leadership casualties, he dismissed reports of the death of the faction’s leader, Mbarek Ag Akli, asserting that the commander remains actively engaged in directing military operations in northern Mali.
