Tchad: new media training partnership boosts journalism standards

A landmark agreement between Chad’s top journalism school and national media association aims to elevate local journalism through hands-on training and professional development.

Partnership signing ceremony between ISJCT and AMET

N’Djamena, August 6, 2026 – Chad’s leading journalism training institution, the Institut Supérieur du Journalisme et de la Communication du Tchad (ISJCT), has formalized a transformative partnership with the Association des Médias en Ligne du Tchad (AMET). This collaboration unites academic excellence with media industry expertise to foster sustainable improvements in Chad’s journalism landscape.

The agreement establishes structured pathways for ISJCT students to gain practical experience through internships within AMET-affiliated media outlets. This initiative not only bridges the gap between classroom learning and professional practice but also amplifies the visibility of ISJCT’s programs across Chad’s digital media ecosystem.

Professional development focus

Beyond student training, the partnership commits both institutions to comprehensive professional development programs for journalists, editors, newsroom managers, and media executives. Key training areas include:

  • Emerging journalistic methodologies
  • Digital journalism techniques
  • Fact-checking and verification skills
  • Media management and business models
  • Artificial intelligence applications in journalism
  • Ethical standards and journalistic integrity
  • Safety protocols for media professionals

Speaking on behalf of ISJCT, Mahamat Mamadou Djimtebaye emphasized the critical nature of this collaboration: «No journalism school can thrive in isolation from industry professionals. The media serve as our pedagogical partners, practical training grounds, and future employers of our graduates.»

AMET’s president, Bello Bakary Mana, welcomed the initiative as a game-changer for Chad’s media sector: «This partnership empowers news organizations to actively shape the next generation of journalists while providing current professionals with invaluable skill enhancement opportunities. With ISJCT, the path to media excellence is now clearly marked.»

Institutional backing

The ISJCT initiative, spearheaded by the MEDEV NGO, receives crucial support from the Swiss Cooperation, GIZ, and DW Akademie. The institute is scheduled to welcome its first cohort of students in October 2026, with aspirations to become a regional hub for journalism education, research innovation, and professional advancement in media studies.

As Chad’s first specialized higher education institution dedicated to journalism, communication, and media management, ISJCT represents a significant advancement in the country’s media development agenda.
