Chad ramps up fight against human trafficking

The Chadian government has stepped up its campaign against human trafficking, with a sharp focus on protecting women and children. Authorities are enforcing existing laws with greater rigor, while ensuring that judicial and security bodies act in unison to dismantle trafficking networks.

Human trafficking remains one of the most egregious violations of human rights, frequently leading to sexual exploitation and forced labor. As a signatory to the United Nations Convention against Transnational Organized Crime since 2009, Chad has enacted key legislation, including Ordinance Nº006/PR/2018 and Law Nº12/PR/2018, to combat this scourge.

Under the new directives, security and judicial officials are required to conduct prompt investigations, document findings in official reports, and forward all cases to the appropriate courts without delay. Every reported case must be registered with the Ministry of Justice and the National Anti-Trafficking Commission for meticulous follow-up and analysis.

Provincial delegates have been tasked with supervising the strict implementation of these measures, ensuring that no trafficking case goes unnoticed. The initiative also aims to establish a comprehensive national database, laying the groundwork for a more effective anti-trafficking strategy in Chad.
