The President of Senegal’s National Assembly, Ousmane Sonko, has publicly acknowledged the Constitutional Council’s ruling that declared the constitutional reform bill passed by lawmakers unconstitutional. The leader of the Pastef party accepted the decision of the Council of Seven Sages, affirming that it must be upheld by all.

In a formal statement, Sonko emphasized the finality of the ruling, stating: “Regardless of the interpretations or opinions on the grounds for this decision, one truth remains clear: this ruling is binding on everyone. Noted.”

Reflecting on the episode, Sonko underscored the importance of institutional roles, asserting that “when each institution fulfills its mandate within its designated scope, no crisis can arise.”

He reassured that the National Assembly remains steadfast in carrying out its duties. “This Parliament will continue to fully exercise its mission—laws will be debated, approved, or rejected to honor the commitments made to the people of Senegal,” he declared.
