Sénégal: The President’s Firm Stance on Constitutional Reform

Ousmane Sonko, President of the National Assembly has issued a strong statement regarding the recent decision by the Constitutional Council to declare a constitutional reform law unconstitutional.

In a public declaration, Sonko emphasized that this decision ‘imposes on everyone’ and urged all parties to accept it. He stressed that when institutions fulfill their roles, no crisis can occur.

The President also reaffirmed the parliamentary institution’s commitment to continuing its duties. ‘The National Assembly will exercise its full mandate,’ Sonko said, assuring that laws will be passed or rejected in accordance with commitments made to the people.
