Sonko grieves the passing of Guinguinéo’s Mouride leader

The President of Senegal’s National Assembly, Ousmane Sonko, has conveyed his heartfelt condolences following the passing of Serigne Abdou Bakhi Mbacké, the Khalife of the Khassim Mbacké family in Guinguinéo, who passed away on Thursday, July 9, 2026.

In a heartfelt statement shared on social media, Sonko expressed his profound sorrow over the loss of the revered religious figure. He extended his deepest sympathies to the deceased’s family, the General Khalife of the Mourides, and the entire Senegalese people.

« With deep emotion and great sadness, I learned of the passing of Serigne Abdou Bakhi Mbacké, Khalife of the Khassim Mbacké family in Guinguinéo, » Sonko wrote in his tribute. He also recalled the warm and meaningful interactions he had with the late leader during his visits to Guinguinéo.

« I had the honor of meeting the esteemed religious guide on multiple occasions during my visits to Guinguinéo. Each encounter was marked by his exceptional kindness, warm hospitality, and genuine affection that left a lasting impression on us all. »
