Sonko pays tribute to the late Serigne Abdou Bakhi Mbacké of Guinguinéo
The President of the National Assembly, Ousmane Sonko, conveyed his heartfelt condolences following the passing of Serigne Abdou Bakhi Mbacké, the spiritual leader of the Khassim Mbacké family in Guinguinéo, on Thursday, July 9, 2026.
In a Facebook post, Sonko honored the late religious figure’s legacy and extended his sympathies to the family, the General Khalife of the Mouride Brotherhood, and the entire Senegalese people. His message reflected deep sorrow over the loss.
“With profound sadness and immense emotion, I learned of the return to God of Serigne Abdou Bakhi Mbacké, the Khalife of the Khassim Mbacké family in Guinguinéo,” Sonko wrote.
He also recalled the warm interactions he shared with the revered spiritual guide during visits to Guinguinéo. “I was privileged to meet him on several occasions during my travels to the region. Each encounter was marked by his exceptional warmth, hospitality, and kindness, leaving a lasting impression on me,” he shared.
In this “time of profound grief,” Sonko offered his “deepest and most sincere condolences” to the deceased’s family, the General Khalife of the Mourides, the religious community of Guinguinéo, and all Senegalese citizens.
“May Allah, in His boundless mercy, grant him forgiveness and welcome him into His eternal paradise,” he concluded.
